Cantt SHO moved to Police lines

Bathinda: The Cantt police station SHO, Harjit Singh, has been transferred to the Police Lines over delay in giving information on a case pertaining to two police officials deployed in jail, who were caught red-handed supplying a mobile phone to a gangster. Bathinda SSP Nanak Singh said Harjit Singh had been transferred on administrative grounds. Sources in the police department told Bathinda Tribune that the transfer was not on account of any mala fide intentions on the part of the SHO in the case, but due to delay in informing senior officials about the incident.TNS

Woman held with sedative pills

Muktsar: The Malout (City) police have arrested a 30-year-old woman allegedly carrying 4,070 sedative pills from near the bus stand in Malout town. The police said the woman, identified as Veena Rani of Midda village, tried to flee on seeing the police. They said sedative pills were recovered from her carry bag. A case under various sections of the NDPS Act has been registered in this regard. In the recent past, too, women have been arrested with drugs and narcotics. TNS

Verify names for compensation: DC

Muktsar: The Muktsar Deputy Commissioner on Wednesday asked officials of the Revenue Department to make sure that the names of farmers, to be provided bonus for not burning paddy, were verified by their village panchayats. He said officials concerned would also ensure that farmers did not burn the crop residue and verify the data from the Agriculture Department and satellite centre as well. TNS

Muktsar: On the occasion of his birthday, former Malout MLA Harpreet Singh on Tuesday planted saplings in Malout town, sending a message to the public to protect the environment. Raj Rasewatt, former chairman of Edwardganj Welfare Society, too planted saplings on the occasion. TNS
