Bathinda, April 7

Tension erupted today outside the office of Finance Minister Manpreet Badal, on the GT road, as BJP Mahila Morcha activists reached here to protest against the ‘deteriorating law and order situation’ in the state.

Farmers also reached the spot and started shouting slogans against the BJP and the Union Government.

The women activists held bangles in their hands. Even Vinod Kumar Binta, president, BJP, Bathinda, who contested the MC polls from Bucho Mandi as an independent candidate, was also seen protesting with the BJP women activists.

Mona Jaiswal, president, BJP Mahila Morcha, Punjab, said, “We are giving bangles to the ministers in protest against the attack on Abohar MLA in Malout, and rise in cases of rape and theft. We are trying to wake up the government through this protest.”

Meanwhile, in Fatehgarh Sahib, timely intervention by the police averted a clash between BJP leaders and protesters in front of MLA Kuljit Singh Nagra’s office. In Abohar, the police erected barricades near the DAV College to prevent the activists from reaching the South Avenue residence of PPCC chief Sunil Jakhar. — TNS
