Bathinda, July 9

Capt Sandeep Sandhu, adviser to the Chief Minister, today visited Bathinda and gave a government job offer letter to Gurwinder Singh, son of deceased farmer Jagsir Singh of Kaura Kotra village, following which, the BKU, Sidhupur, called off the protest after 10 months of struggle.

Jagsir died by suicide during a protest held by the BKU, Sidhupur, in Jaitu, opposing the cases registered against farmers for stubble burning.

The union had demanded to waive the loan on Jagsir, and sought compensation and a government job for one family member. The government had provided the compensation and waived his loan, but no job was given to any family member till date.

In the past few days, the farmers had intensified the protest by blocking the road outside the DC office. — TNS
