US woman becomes 1st to swim English Channel 4 times

London: US endurance swimmer Sarah Thomas has become the first person to swim across the English Channel four times without stopping, refuelling only on a liquid formula during her 54-hour feat. The 37-year-old woman from Colorado performed her record-breaking swim a year after receiving treatment for breast cancer, and dedicated her feat to fellow cancer survivors. She came ashore on a beach near Dover  on Tuesday. IANS

Thailand’s sex-shy giant panda dies at 19 

Bangkok: A beloved male giant panda on loan to Thailand from China has died aged 19 in Chiang Mai, leaving Thais on Tuesday to mourn the death of a mammal whose sex life captivated the kingdom. Chuang Chuang, a resident of the northern city’s zoo since October 2003, arrived with female Lin Hui. The pair’s mating habits —or lack of — became a source of public intrigue, with Chuang Chuang was shown clips of panda’s coupling in a bid to spice up their sex drive. But, Lin Hui finally gave birth thanks to artificial insemination to Linping in 2009. AFP

Plea to remove Maryam as PML-N vice-chief dismissed

Islamabad: The Election Commission on Tuesday dismissed a plea to remove PML-N leader Maryam Nawaz as a vice-president of the party and ruled that she was eligible to hold the position. The plea filed by PTI lawmakers contended that Maryam Nawaz’s appointment as PML-N vice-chief was in contravention of constitutional principles since she was convicted in a graft case. IANS
