London: Scotland Yard is considering using eagles to hunt and take down drones operated by criminals, amid concerns that the pilot-less aircraft can be used to smuggle items and drop explosives by terrorists. The Metropolitan Police commissioner, Sir Bernard Hogan-Howe, is reportedly impressed with a similar Dutch initiative and is keen for London to trial the use of birds of prey against dangerous pilot-less aircraft controlled remotely. Tainan: At least four people were rescued on Monday from a high-rise Taiwanese apartment building toppled by a powerful quake two days earlier, as frustration grew among families waiting for searchers to reach their buried loved ones. More than 100 people are believed to still be under the debris in a disaster that struck during the most important family holiday in the Chinese calendar the Lunar New Year. AP
Bangladesh show covers up Tibetan art
Dhaka: One of Bangladesh's biggest art shows has covered up an exhibit by Tibetan artists after the Chinese embassy in Dhaka said it was "offended" by the artwork, an organiser said today. A photographic exhibit entitled "Last Words", featuring the letters of five Tibetans who self-immolated in protest at Chinese rule, was covered with white sheets at the Dhaka Art Summit. AFP
Ex-French minister in court for tax fraud
Paris: A former French budget minister will appear in court on charges of tax fraud and money laundering that forced him to dramatically resign three years ago in the first political scandal under President Francois Hollande. The trial of Jerome Cahuzac, once a champion in the fight against tax evasion, started in the main hearing room of the Paris criminal court. AP
