Three New York residents have filed a lawsuit against US President Donald Trump and administrator of the Federal Emergency Management Agency William Long, over the new Presidential Alert messaging system. The plaintiffs express concern over the possibility of Trump broadcasting arbitrary, biased, irrational messages and there is no way to opt out of the system. The first such ‘test alert’ was sent out on Wednesday. The Presidential Alerts are sent to citizens’ phones with a loud noise and vibration. ANI

Lockheed Martin unveils lunar lander concept vehicle        

Washington: US aerospace giant Lockheed Martin, responding to NASA’s plans to renew the exploration of the moon and Mars in the next decade, unveiled a concept spacecraft able to land on the lunar surface. The US space agency said it plans to send astronauts to the moon for the first time since 1972 as the initial stage for a future trip to Mars, part of an official US policy set by President Donald Trump. To achieve this goal, NASA has called on aerospace industry producers to present plans to build a space station that orbits around the moon, dubbed the “Lunar Gateway.” AFP

Port-au-Prince: With photos of her bruised face and body circulating on social media, a Haitian mayor and prominent actress revealed herself to be a victim of domestic abuse in a bid to start a national conversation about sexual violence. “We women, which such a thing happens, we are the ones who feel ashamed. We don’t speak up because we are embarrassed, we feel shameful,” said Nice Simon, who is the mayor of Tabarre, part of the metropolitan Port-au-Prince area. “But today, the shame is no longer for me, the shame is for the aggressor.” AFP
