Hong Kong: China's Huawei Technologies has punished two employees for New Year greetings sent on the smartphone maker's official Twitter account using an iPhone. Huawei, whose P-series handsets compete with Apple's iPhone, on New Year's Day wished followers a "Happy #2019" in a tweet marked sent "via Twitter for iPhone". The tweet was quickly removed but screenshots of the blunder spread across social media. "The traitor has revealed himself," quipped one user on microblog Weibo. An internal Huawei memo said: "the incident caused damage to the Huawei brand". Reuters

Data leak targets German officials, including Merkel

Berlin: Hundreds of German politicians, including Chancellor Angela Merkel, have fallen victim to a massive online leak of private data, the government said on Friday. "Personal data and documents belonging to hundreds of politicians and public figures were published on the Internet," government spokeswoman Martina Fietz said. The stolen data, which comprised personal addresses, mobile phone numbers, letters, invoices and copies of identity documents, was published online via Twitter in December but inexplicably only came to light this week. — AFP
