Anisa Rasouli, the head of the Afghan Women Judges' Association and a former juvenile court judge, was the only woman nominated to the nine-member Bench after the announcement was delayed due to opposition by a group of Islamic conservatives earlier this month. Juba: The United Nations accused South Sudan's government forces and its allies on Tuesday of sexually abusing women and girls and reportedly burning some alive in their homes during recent fighting in the conflict-torn nation. The UN Mission in South Sudan said the findings came from a report based on interviews with 115 victims from districts in the oil-rich Unity State, where the government's SPLA forces launched an offensive against rebels in late April. Man on wheelchair robs US bank, makes getaway

New York: Not the fastest getaway but a wheelchair-bound man in the US robbed a bank and rolled away with more than $1,200 in cash. The unidentified suspect, believed to be in his 20s, cruised into the Santander Bank branch in Long Island City and handed the teller a note demanding money, the police said. The employee handed over $1,200 and the crook scooted out of the bank in his wheelchair, fleeing west down Broadway. PTI

Man sets himself ablaze on Japan bullet train, 2 dead

Tokyo: Two passengers on a Japanese Shinkansen bullet train died on Tuesday after one doused himself in oil and set it ablaze, the police said, but there was no immediate indication of a motive for the action that left 26 others injured. The train, carrying about 1,000 passengers, made an emergency stop on its way from Tokyo, the capital, to the western city of Osaka, after smoke started to fill at least one carriage. Reuters
