Sanaa: The Saudi-led coalition bombed military camps in Yemen’s capital Sanaa on Wednesday, killing 43 people and wounding 100 others. Yemen's official Saba news agency said the air raids were targeted against the military bases on al-Nahdain Mountain and the camp in Sanaa, which were controlled by the Shia Houthi group. IANS
German city evacuated after bomb found
Berlin: In the biggest evacuation since the World War-II, authorities in Germany's fourth-largest city of Cologne on Wednesday started evacuating around 20,000 people after a 1,000-kg bomb was found in the north-east area of the city. Schools in the area were closed. Bridges, streets, trains, boats and even planes were blocked, cancelled or rerouted. IANS
3-month ban on adoption in quake-hit Nepal
Kathmandu: Nepal on Wednesday said it had imposed a three-month ban on adoptions to try to stop vulnerable children being trafficked after a devastating earthquake. The government said it imposed the ban as part of measures after rescuing more than 50 children. "We fear traffickers might try to cash in on the situation people are in right now, and have taken these decisions to protect vulnerable children," said an official. afp

London: An Indian-origin teacher has been honoured by Oxford University for helping one of her students get into the world-famous varsity. Gurnimrat 'Nimmy' Sidhu, head of science at Oaks Park High School in London, is among 12 teachers to win the 'University of Oxford Inspirational Teacher Award' set up to encourage more state-funded schools to connect with the university. Indian-American doctor jailed for healthcare fraud
New York: An Indian-origin doctor, Mahesh Kuthuru, 43, who owned a pain management centre in New York, was sentenced by a US district court to 18 months for healthcare fraud and another 12 months for unlawful distribution of controlled substances. He has also been ordered to pay over $84,265 as restitution due to federal insurance programme Medicare. PTI
Libyan Premier survives shooting attack
Tripoli: Libya’s Prime Minister Abdullah al-Thinni has survived a shooting attack during a demonstration against the government. “A convoy of the Prime Minister was shot at as he was leaving Tobruk air base, the parliament's temporary headquarter," a senior government official told Xinhua news agency.
