Lahore: Some 100,000 “suspected” Afghans living in Pakistan have been declared as “aliens” by authorities in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan provinces. Their national identity cards have been blocked since the country’s National Database and Registration Authority expedited the process of scrutinising foreigners among Pakistanis during the past few months. Indian in UAE jailed for ‘blasphemous’ Facebook status
Dubai: A court in the United Arab Emirates has sentenced an Indian to one year in jail for posting a “blasphemous and slanderous” status on social networking site Facebook. A Dubai court found the 41-year-old man guilty of cursing Islam on Facebook after he watched a news about the Iraq war in July last year. IANS
2 Indian-American docs to pay $3.6 m in settlement
Washington: A medical practice co-owned by two Indian-origin doctors has agreed to pay $3.6 million to settle false bills raised for tests that were not needed. The settlement between the government and NJMedCare/NJ Heart owners Jasjit Walia and Preet Randhawa was announced on Thursday. IANS
