Their national identity cards have been blocked since the country’s National Database and Registration Authority expedited the process of scrutinising foreigners among Pakistanis during the past few months. Dubai: A court in the United Arab Emirates has sentenced an Indian to one year in jail for posting a “blasphemous and slanderous” status on social networking site Facebook. A Dubai court found the 41-year-old man guilty of cursing Islam on Facebook after he watched a news about the Iraq war in July last year. IANS

2 Indian-American docs to pay $3.6 m in settlement

Washington: A medical practice co-owned by two Indian-origin doctors has agreed to pay $3.6 million to settle false bills raised for tests that were not needed. The settlement between the government and NJMedCare/NJ Heart owners Jasjit Walia and Preet Randhawa was announced on Thursday. IANS
