Water Connections in Amritsar

Show comments

THE heavy death rate from malaria and pneumonia which have for sometime been causing havoc at Amritsar and taking a large toll of human lives, must lead to an enquiry into conditions of the town with a view to ameliorating them. The topographical position of the town which is situated in a hollow must be considered beyond repair for all practical purposes. Barring this, the other factors that might be directly or indirectly contributing to the existing high mortality must be spotted and removed. There has been a complaint that sanitation of the town has suffered a breakdown to some extent, owing to the shortage of conservancy staff. We cannot say how much is the strength of the staff thus temporarily incapacitated.
