The Viceroy''s Reply to Mr. Banerjea

Show comments

THE Viceroy's reply to Mr. Banerjea's telegrams, assuring Government of the whole-hearted co-operation of responsible Bengali leaders at this juncture, is couched in admirably appropriate words. His Excellency, while thanking Mr. Banerjea for his helpful telegrams, says that he sincerely appreciates Mr. Banerjea's attitude and will look to him for co-operation in due course. As we have pointed out, however, it is not enough merely to ask for or accept the co-operation of popular leaders. It is necessary to make them feel that they have a responsible duty to perform and that in the performance of this duty they can expect all possible co-operation from the Government.
