Show comments

The  ill-fated town of Muktsar which lost several thousands of houses in heavy floods had the good fortune of a visit sometime ago from His Honour the Lieutenant Governor who looked into the plight of the inhabitants and initiated measures of help. The fund instituted by the Municipal Committee under His Honour’s direction has now reached Rs. 5,000. We are further informed that the Deputy Commissioner Mr. Clarke, accompanied by the Executive Engineer, visited the town again on the 23rd August and came to a decision to have a drain made in the market. The chief need of the town is bricks and the Deputy Commissioner has arranged for brick kilns to be started from which the poor and middle classes would receive supplies at concessional rates, and that in the meantime chholdaries be provided for those in need of shelter.
