The New Chief Judge

THE Hon’ble Mr. Justice Shah Din’s appointment as Chief Judge of the Chief Court, Punjab, is thrice blessed. To Mr. Din himself it means the recognition of the claims of merit, distinguished service and seniority. To Mr. Din’s countrymen in the Punjab and elsewhere it means the recognition of a principle that the claims of an Indian to a high office for which he is duly qualified by his position, attainments and capacity are not to be ignored because he is an Indian. And to the Government itself, it means an act which is hailed with a chorus of approval. Every supersession of the deserving claims of an Indian means on the contrary dissatisfaction of the individual, dissatisfaction of the whole community to which he belongs, and we doubt not of the Government itself.
