The Dyal Singh College, Lahore

Show comments

IT was in May, 1910, that the Dyal Singh College was formally inaugurated. It has thus been in existence for hardly five years. Nevertheless, within this short period it has won a measure of popularity that has fallen to the lot of few other private institutions of its standing. It was started with only 185 students, but it had on its rolls no fewer than 362 in 1911, 393 in 1912 and 488 in 1913. The results of the examinations, it is true, have varied from year to year. But taking into consideration the difficulties, initial and other, with which it is beset, even the results, the value of which the principal modest discounts, cannot be considered unsatisfactory. Few other colleges have in the infancy shown a pass percentage of 90 and 100 in English in the degree examination, and the Dyal Singh College has produced creditable results in other subjects also.
