Sino-Indian Relations At A New Low Level

Show comments

From Our Special Correspondent

NEW DELHI, June 19-The protest note to China today marks a new level of deterioration in Sino-Indian relations. It is for the first time that India has accused China of "stirring lawlessness against the legally constituted authority in India". It is also the first time that India has declared unequivocally that "there has been growing evidence of the Chinese Government's hand in promoting subversion". All these days Indian had confined itself to criticising China for interfering in its affairs through the radio or the Press. But at no time did India say that it had evidence of their (Chinese) supplying arms or giving guidance for subversion. Nagaland is far beyond the Indian territory claimed by the Chinese. It is not certain why the Chinese have adopted this new technique. It is contrary to the requirements of internationally accepted code of conduct between neighbours. It also goes against the Communist doctrine.
