In our issue of 9th September, the death anniversary of Sardar Dyal Singh Majithia, the prince of patriots and the noblest benefactor which the Punjab has known in modern times, we expressed a regret that no steps had so far been taken to celebrate his death anniversary in a manner befitting the position which the departed leader holds in the hearts of his countrymen, and worthy of the province to which he belonged. We are glad to find that the idea to which we gave expression finds a whole-hearted response in the columns of the Urdu Press. The Hindustan, for instance, devotes a long and appreciative leading article headed “The Punjab’s Immortal Benefactor” recounting the numerous and far-reaching services rendered by the Sardar Sahib to the province of his birth in connection with the establishment of the Tribune, the Dyal Singh College and Dyal Singh Free Library and Reading Room.
