Release of an interned Sikh.

WE learn that at the instance of Mr. C.M. King, I.C.S., and Mr. Scott, District Superintendent of Police, Bhai Kehr Singh of Burj Raika in Thana Sarhali, who was interned sometime ago, has been released. Bhai Kehr Singh is believed to be pious man. He has a shop in the Rivaz Market at Patti and has built a Dharmsala close to the Patti railway station for the use of travellers. He is respected by the people of the Ilaqa and his assistance to agriculturists in the disposal of their produce is mentioned as being much valued by the Sikhs. His internment, therefore, caused pain and astonishment to a good many Sikhs, and accordingly representations poured in to the Deputy Commissioner and the District Superintendent of Police from Amritsar and Lyallpur Districts with the result already mentioned. It is apparent that in the case popular and official intervention led to further inquiry which showed that interment was not absolutely necessary in pubic interests. A reconsideration in a similar magnanimous spirit of the cases of some others who are believed to be innocent or harmless, and for whose release petitions have been addressed to Government or to the police authorities, may also result in the release of those men.
