Prohibition of Newspapers in Burma.

Show comments

THE Burma Government has prescribed certain Indian newspapers and has appointed a special officer to search incoming persons to find out if they carry any objectionable or prohibited literature. Dr. P.J. Mehta, Chairman of the Provincial Congress Committee, recently addressed a lengthy letter to the local Government drawing its attention to the annoyance and inconvenience caused to certain passengers at the wharf, especially to the "impertinent question asked." It appears that they only carried Congress literature with them. The Government has replied saying that searches will henceforth be conducted with as little inconvenience as possible and that complaints would be enquired into.
