In India from time immemorial various religious and charitable institutions are being endowed but most of them are mismanaged. Institutions for the relief of distress, for feeding the poor and rewarding learned persons are liable to be mismanaged more than others. Even modern institutions started with the guarantee of supervision by leading persons are sometimes mismanaged. This is attributed to want of efficient supervision either by the State or by private individuals and there is a demand made for suitable legislation. But we were not prepared to hear of mismanagement of certain war charities in England where the law is almost perfect and the people have considerable experience of charity organisation and efficient management.
