Ladies’ Swadeshi agency

Show comments

WE have heard of various attempts made by people in Bombay, Calcutta and Madras to encourage Swadeshi manufactures by purchasing as far as possible India made articles of daily use. But an exclusive society of ladies for this purpose where those articles of use by India ladies are sold, has been in existence in Bandra, a suburb of Bombay, for the last 6 years. It is called Swadeshi Vastu Bhandar or the Ladies Stores of Indian goods and its sixth anniversary was celebrated on Monday last. The stores, we understand, are flourishing and the profits are each year not shared by the lady shareholders but given away as donation to some charitable institution. This is a commendable example of Bombay ladies, evidently of the middle class of society, indicating their patriotic zeal and practical goods.
