AT the opening of the Mysore Exhibition on the 12th instant, H.H. the Yuvaraja is reported to have said something in favour of treating industrial labourers more liberally. He thought that Mr. Banerji, the Secretary of the Exhibition, had rightly sounded a note of warning against the danger of industrial development benefiting the higher classes at the expense of the wage-earners. He said the danger was a very real one, as experience had shown in other countries, but it was very difficult to find a practical remedy for unequal distribution of wealth. We believe this question is forcing itself on the attention of all employers of labour by reason of the rapidly rising cost of living and the necessity of maintaining a higher standard of sanitation of working class districts. We hear of industrial strikes more frequently now than before and the working classes find themselves forced to demand higher wages.
