Indians in Canada

Show comments

IN our recent article on the expected settlement of the position of Indians in Canada after the war, we pointed out how fallacious the familiar objections were and how when we considered the problem, it was capable of solution. A Bombay contemporary points out that the Star of Toronto urges upon the Canadians that while “they are inclined to look at Russians and Italians and Frenchmen more favourably than they were some time ago, they should not look any less favourably at Sikhs and other Indians. Let Canadians and Indians talk the matter over and come to an understanding. That is diplomacy-broad diplomacy, modern diplomacy, as contrasted with the trickery and senseless, ceremony that were once associated with the word. Make some arrangement that would prevent the flooding of the labour market in British Columbia without hurting the feelings of our Indian friends.”
