Grievances of the Amritsar Bar.

Show comments

THE detailed correspondence between the Amritsar Bar Association and the District Magistrate, Amritsar, which has appeared in these columns shows to what a sorry pass matters have come at Amritsar. The Bar may be the bête noire of certain magistrates who consider it a drag on the executive administration, but such cannot be the idea of Government and the highest judicial authorities in the province. In one of his farewell speeches Sir Donald Johnstone, the late Chief Judge, stated that the day was gone when any judge could hope to decide a case after taking the statements of the parties and he readily acknowledged what an important part of the Bar played in the administration. The present Chief Judge, the Hon'ble Mr. Muhummad Shah Din, himself an honoured member of the Bar, shares the views of the late Chief Judge.
