Education among the backward communities

Show comments

THE facilities for education given to backward communities of India, who have been submerged in ignorance have everywhere been fruitful in bringing to prominence men of talent. The Tiyas of South India occupy a very inferior place in social position though they have many excellent characteristics. They have formed an association of their own for encouragement of education and industry and for social benefits. At the last annual meeting they presented a gold medal to Miss Kausalya, B.A.,L.L., probably the first of their class to distinguish herself as a licentiate in teaching. She is the daughter of a popular judge and it is gratifying to learn that this community is fast rising into prominence by education and co-operation. Its example is worth being followed by other backward communities.
