Afghan Peace Delegates

Show comments

THE most interesting of the Afghan Delegates, writes a correspondent of the Englishman, was Sirdar Ali Ahmed Khan, the President. The others, with the exception of the Hindu, Niranjan Das, were old and tired-looking men, and took hardly any part in the Peace proceedings, beyond nodding assent indifferently to remarks made by Sir Hamilton Grant or the Sirdar. The last, however, was anything but tired. He was all quick-silver and vitality. He bears an extraordinary resemblance to the published portraits of the late Emperor Francis Joseph in middle age, even down to the side whiskers!
