Jeju Island (S Korea), Oct 21

After a sublime third round, Shubhankar Sharma shot a modest 74 to finish a distant tied-55th at the CJ Cup @ Nine Bridges here today. Sharma had four birdies and four bogeys and a double on Day 4 as he totalled 1-under.

The star of the day was three-time Major champion Brooks Koepka, who shot an 8-under 64 with a closing eagle to win by four shots. Koepka totalled 21-under. With the victory, Koepka moves to No. 1 in the official rankings for the first time in his career. Koepka has now won three of his last 11 starts on the PGA Tour.

Tvesa and Gaurika T-13; Becky ends 18-year wait

Gurugram: India’s rising stars Gaurika Bishnoi and Tvesa Malik were the top home players at tied-13th at the Women’s Indian Open, while Becky Morgan of Wales ended an 18-year long barren run to secure her first ever professional title here today.

Gaurika (73) and Malik (72), who are only in their second year of professional golf, finished at 1-over, eight shots behind Morgan. Vani Kapoor (70), who played with tendonitis this week, and Astha Madan (70) finished tied-37th.

In her 18th year on tour, Morgan (72-72-68-69) could finally enjoy her moment in the sun. “It’s taken me 18 years and it’s a mixture of excitement and relief that finally I have done it,” Morgan said. “I didn’t look at the scoreboard until the 18th green because I knew anything could happen. I knew I was doing fairly well because I was playing well, but I kept to myself and let it happen.”

Starting the day in shared lead alongside Nicole Broch Larsen and Eleanor Givens, Morgan held at bay a four-player pack to emerge the winner by two shots. — PTI
