The Supreme Court on Friday ordered the BCCI Committee of Administrators (COA) to release Rs 2.5 crore to the Himachal Pradesh Cricket Association (HPCA) to hold the fourth Test match between India and Australia at Dharamsala. The Bench also ordered COA to release funds to the other state associations which hosted the first three Tests of the series. Besides, COA was told to release funds for the forthcoming IPL, commencing from April 5.
The order came after a senior counsel, Tushar Mehta, submitted on behalf of HPCA that COA wasn’t releasing Rs 2.5 crore for holding the Dharamsala Test. He said BCCI owed over Rs 8 crore to HPCA and was bound to pay it.
SC issues clarification on nine-year term
Clarifying its earlier order on disqualification to hold posts in BCCI and the state associations, the Bench said a person who has held any post in a state association for nine years would be eligible to become an officer-bearer in BCCI. Similarly, a person who has held a post in BCCI for nine years would be eligible to hold a post in state associations.
