Sandhu stays in hunt, Jitu falters

Rio de Janeiro: Manavjit Sandhu has rallied to the third place in the men’s trap shooting event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. Sandhu scored 72 out of 75 at the Rio di Janerio’s Olympics Shooting Centre on Saturday.

Manavjit Sandhu has rallied to the third place in the men’s trap shooting event at the International Shooting Sport Federation (ISSF) World Cup. Sandhu scored 72 out of 75 at the Rio di Janerio’s Olympics Shooting Centre on Saturday. 

He began the day at the eighth position, and shot a 24 to match second-placed Briton Edward Ling’s overall score. World No. 2 Alberto Fernandez (Spain) is leading the pack with 74 points. Meanwhile, Jitu Rai, the world No.1 in the 50m pistol, narrowly missed out on the finals of the men’s 10m air pistol event. 

Rio-bound paddlers included under TOPS

New Delhi:  Table tennis players Achanta Sharath Kamal, Soumyajit Ghosh, Manika Batra and Mouma Das — who have qualified for the Rio — will receive up to Rs 30 lakh each under the TOPS. Sharath and Das on Saturday secured the Olympics berth after winning the final rounds in Stage 2 of the Asia Olympics qualification.  — Agencies
