Glasgow Commonwealth Games bronze medallist Mohammad Asab and veteran trap shooter Manavjit Singh Sandhu have qualified for the prestigious ISSF Shotgun World Cup Final to be held in Nicosia, Cyprus, from October 15 to 21. The duo has been selected to represent India at the event on the basis of their performance at this year’s World Cup Stages in Acapulco (Mexico), Al Ain (UAE), Larnaca (Cyprus) and Gabala (Azerbaijan). A total of 60 shooters, representing 28 countries, will compete in five classic Olympics events – men’s and women’s trap, men's and women's skeet and men's double trap.

The tournament is quite significant for the two shooters as it’s happening just two weeks before the 13th Asian Shooting Championship in Kuwait, which will be the last Olympics qualifier. Both Sandhu and Asab are yet to qualify for the Olympics.

Asab did not win a single medal at this year’s World Cup stages, but the 26-year-old Meerut-born reached the finals on two occasions. Based on this performance, the ISSF selected him for the World Cup Final. Similarly, Sandhu was chosen on the basis of his bronze medal-winning performance at the Mexico World Cup.

Asab will compete on October 17, while Sandhu will be seen in action on October 20.
