Railways lost all their 10 wickets for just 46 runs after putting up a 150-run opening stand as Punjab look set for an innings victory in the Ranji Trophy Group A encounter.

Railways were 150 for no loss as Saurabh Wakaskar (69) and Ashish Singh (90) made a sold start on Day 2 after Punjab declared their innings at 604/5. Pacer Barinder Sran (6/61) and Siddharth Kaul (4/53) used the reverse swing to good effect to bundle out the opposition for 196 runs. As many as five Railways batsman were out without scoring a run. Following on, Railways were 125/5 with 283 runs still needed to prevent an innings defeat. Left-arm spinner Varun Khanna took all the five wickets in the second innings.

Maharashtra need 79 runs to surpass Haryana’s total

Pune: Swapnil Gugale scored a half-century as Maharashtra reached 256/3 in their first innings at the end of the third day’s play against Haryana in a Group A match. Maharashtra need 79 runs with seven wickets in hand to go past Haryana’s first innings total of 355.

Resuming at 7/0, openers Gugale (91) and Harshad Khadiwale (44) laid a solid platform by putting on 115 runs together. While Gugale’s 91 runs came off 163 balls with the help of 12 fours and two sixes,

Khadiwale took 91 deliveries to score 44 runs.

At the close of play, Kedar Jadhav was unbeaten on 39 and Ankit Bawne, at the other end, was on 33 runs. The duo scored an unbroken 76 runs for the fourth wicket on the penultimate day. For Haryana, Ashish Hooda claimed two for 50, while Jayant Yadav (1/80) chipped in with a wicket.

Baby, Samson hit tons as Kerala take big lead

Srinagar: Sachin Baby and Sanju Samson struck centuries as Kerala piled up 485/8 to take a huge 155-run first-innings lead over J&K in a Group C match at the Sher-e-Kashmir Stadium. Baby made 151 off 321 balls with the help of 21 boundaries and a six, while Samson scored 101 off 171 balls, hitting 16 fours iduring his knock.

Resuming at the overnight 158/2, the two batsmen added 177 runs for the fourth wicket to help Kerala overtake J&K’s total of 330. For J&K, Ram Dayal picked up three wickets for 79 runs. — PTI
