Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Friday announced a task force to draw up a comprehensive action plan to prepare for India's participation in the 2020-2028 Olympics.

The task force, comprising members that will include both in-house experts as well as those from outside, will be created in the next few days to prepare a comprehensive plan for effective participation of Indian sportspersons in the next three Olympics, starting 2020 Tokyo.

While announcing this at the meeting of his Council of Ministers — the first since it was reshuffled recently — said the task force will prepare the overall strategy for sports facilities, training, selection procedure and related matters.

The recent Rio Olympics saw one the largest-ever participation by India of more than 100 sportspersons who qualified for the prestigious sporting event but many of them could not cross the first stage.

India ended winning two medals — a silver by PV Sindhu in Women's Singles and Saskhi Malik in women's freestyle (58kg). The country spent over Rs 100 crore in training the sportspersons for the Olympic under The Target Olympic Programme.
