Sonepat, May l9

Haryana’s wrestlers are not only dominating in India but they have made their presence felt in other countries as well. Vinod Kumar Dahiya, who hails from Khanda village in Sonepat district, will be representing Australia in the Rio Olympics in the 66kg category in Greco-Roman category.

Regarding Sushil Kumar's plea for holding selection trials to decide India's representation in the 74kg category (freestyle) in Rio, Dahiya is of the view that a trial should be held to select the best wrestler.

The 31-year-old had won a gold medal in National Junior Wrestling Championship in India (2009) but moved to Australia in 2010 to work as a delivery man in a courier company. “I did not lose my interest in wrestling and devoted time for practice. I have won the Australian Championship five times,” he said.

Dahiya earned the Rio berth by winning a silver medal at the African/Oceania Olympics qualifiers in Algeria.

Dahiya reached his village yesterday to perform the last rites of his mother.
