Genzebe Dibaba, the 2015 champion and world record holder in the women’s 1,500 metres, will miss the World Championships due to a foot injury, the Ethiopian said on Instagram.

Dibaba, 28, set the global best of 3min 50:07sec over the distance in 2015, is suffering from a partial rupture to a ligament in her right heel which she suffered during the Zurich Diamond League meeting last month. “Unfortunately I am not able to be at  World Championships. I am already working to come back stronger,” she said. — AFP


Anas not to run in individual 400m

New Delhi: National record holder Muhammed Anas will not run in the individual 400m at the Doha World Championships beginning on September 27 despite breaching the qualifying mark of the showpiece event. “We have not entered Anas for individual 400m as we thought he can help the country better in the men’s and mixed 4x400m relays. We have good chance to do well in the relays, especially in the mixed category,” an AFI source said. PTI
