Gaurav Gill bounces back in Rally of Turkey

New Delhi: Indian rallyist Gaurav Gill showed great grit and tenacity to bounce back from the previous day’s mechanical failure to claim the sixth spot at the end of Stage 12 in the Rally of Turkey, the first event of the FIA World Rally Championship 2. Gill (along with co-driver Glenn Macneall) is placed 17th overall.

Gill (along with co-driver Glenn Macneall) is placed 17th overall. He is driving a totally new car with barely any testing time in it.

Saurabh betters his world record in shooting trials

Asian Games gold medallist Saurabh Chaudhary bettered his own world record to win the men’s 10m air pistol event at the national shooting trials (T7) here today. Chaudhary scored 246.8, bettering his own finals world record score of 246.3. However, this will not be counted as official. World Championships silver medalist Anjum Moudgil triumphed in the women’s 50m rifle 3 positions event.

Advani enters final of IBSF World Billiards C’ship

India’s top cueist Pankaj Advani defeated England’s Mike Russell 5-2 to enter the final of the IBSF World Billiards Championship here today. In a clash of the titans, the defending champion prevailed over the multiple-time world champion. Russell had lost at the same stage last year to settle for a bronze. Advani, who is vying for his 22nd world title, will face local player Nay Thway Oo in the summit clash in a repeat of last year’s final. Thway Oo had beaten Russell in the semifinals last year. “I’m really pleased to enter the final again. This feels like deja vu playing Oo again. Let’s hope the outcome is the same too,” Advani said. In the other semifinal match, Oo overcame India’s Sourav Kothari 5-3.

Former England off-spinner Monty Panesar, who recently turned author, has spoken of plans to enter the world of politics, possibly as a future Mayor of London. The 37-year-old said he would like to tackle politics at the end of his cricketing career. “Politics does interest me. I live in London, I know about London so maybe once Sadiq Khan is done, he will pass the baton on to me for Mayor of London,” Panesar said. Agencies
