North Sound (Antigua), Aug 25

Ajinkya Rahane scored his first Test century in two years before India blew away the West Indies top-order to close in on a comfortable victory in the first Test. Rahane scored a patient 102 but Hanuma Vihari (93) missed out on his maiden Test ton by just seven runs as India declared their second innings at 343/7 to set WI a target of 419 runs.

Rahane and Vihari raised a 135-run partnership for the fifth wicket after India lost skipper Virat Kohli (51) early on Day 4. Jasprit Bumrah and Ishant Sharma then blew away the West Indies top-order to leave them gasping at 56/9 in 21.1 overs. The hosts need 345 more runs with just one wicket in hand.

Bumrah and Ishant exposed the feeble West Indies’ batting line-up with their fiery spells as none of the home batsmen could reach double digits.

Bumrah removed both the openers — Kraigg Brathwaite (1) and John Campbell (7) — before rattling the stumps of Darren Bravo (2). Ishant got rid of Shamarh Brooks (2) and Shimron Hetmyer (1). Kohli’s scalp did not help WI much as Rahane and Vihari gradually took the game away from the hosts. — PTI
