Former India defender and coach Salam passes away 

Former India footballer and coach Syed Abdus Salam, who was awarded the best defender in the 1956 Melbourne Olympics, died at his Salarjung Colony residence today. The 77-year-old was bed-ridden for more than five years after a hip injury. He represented India under Badru Banerjee at the Melbourne Games where India finished fourth and was the last Indian football team to have made the Olympics.

Mukesh Kumar grabs lead at Panasonic Open 

Mukesh Kumar grabbed an outright lead with a second round three-under 69 on a day when Lee Sung of Korea drove home a BMW after scoring an ace at Panasonic Open India. Kumar, 51, sank five birdies against two bogeys for an eight-under-par 136 total, giving himself a two-shot lead.

Aditi stays in hunt for LPGA card at tied-27 

Aditi Ashok maintained her tied-27th place with a card of one-under 71 that keeps her in the running for a coveted LPGA card in the final stage of LPGA Qualifying tournament. Aditi had three birdies on the fifth, eighth and the 18th, while she dropped shots on 13th and 14th. Nasa Hataoka of Japan posted a 69 to grab a one-shot lead.
