Pakistan skipper Misbah-ul-Haq has backed his team not to give up World Cup hopes yet, despite incurring back-to-back debacles, and has called on his teammates to draw inspiration from Imran Khan's 1992 tournament winning team.

Pakistan suffered a humiliating 150-run defeat against the West Indies at Hagley Oval last week after Misbah's men were thrashed by defending champions India in their opening game.

Backing his teammates, Misbah said that the important lesson is never give up as that was what Imran Khan usually says about 1992. Reflecting on the 1992 World Cup winning team, Misbah said that even when the team was in difficult times, they never gave up, adding that they just kept trying, and at last they just managed to do what they really wanted to do in that World Cup.

Imran Khan's team started their World Cup campaign on a losing note but eventually went on to beat England in the final to clinch the coveted trophy in 1992. Meanwhile, Zimbabwe captain Elton Chigumbura believes that when it comes to strategies they have an added bonus as their head coach Dav Whatmore has worked with Pakistan earlier. — Agencies
