Mo Farah surged into the lead with 60m remaining to claim victory in the fastest 10,000m of the year at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League. Farah shook off a valiant challenge by Kenyan William Sitonik to win his first outdoor race of the year and kept alive a five-year winning streak at the distance as he clocked an Olympic-qualifying time of 26 minutes, 53.71s. “I don't want to lose here,” said the Briton, who trains in nearby Portland, Oregon.

In their bid to cash in on the popularity of the IPL among Indian diaspora, India Test captain Virat Kohli could be pitted against limited-overs skipper MS Dhoni in exhibition matches for their respective franchises in the US. According to sources, three franchises namely MI, RCB and RPS have expressed their desire to play some exhibition matches in the US where there is a sizeable Indian and South Asian population.

West Indies suffered their second straight warm-up loss in preparation for next week's tri-nations series, when they went down to a Barbados Select XI by four wickets. WI could only muster 200/9 from their 45 overs at 3Ws Oval of the UWI Cave Hill Campus. Jonathan Carter top-scored with 36, Marlon Samuels got 33 and opener Andre Fletcher 31. Ricciardo takes first F1 pole in Monaco
Australian Daniel Ricciardo seized the first pole position of his Formula One career at the Monaco Grand Prix on Saturday with world championship leader Nico Rosberg joining him on the front row for Mercedes. “High time,” shouted the Red Bull driver over the team radio after being told the news. The pole, in a time of one minute 13.622 seconds, was the team’s first since Sebastian Vettel at the Brazil Grand Prix in November 2013. It was also the first time since 2012 that Mercedes did not secure the top slot in Monaco. Triple world champion Lewis Hamilton qualified third. Ferrari’s Vettel will join the Briton on the second row.

Marcus Rashford made a bold claim for a place at Euro 2016 as the Manchester United sensation took just 135 seconds to became the youngest player to score on his England debut in the 2-1 win against Australia.
