Jind girls star in India’s title win

The Indian women’s handball team clinched the International Handball Federation Trophy after beating Bangladesh 48-29 in Dhaka on Thursday. The triumph was extra special for the handball fraternity in Jind as five players — Sushma, Asha, Jyoti, Shveta and Simran — in the national team belong to Haryana’s Jind district. 

While Himachal Pradesh’s Monika top-scored in the final with eight goals, the Jind girls also contributed as Sushma scored five, Asha scored three, Jyoti scored two and Simran and Shveta scored a goal each.

In fact, the men’s team also won the title after beating Bangladesh 46-25 in the final. Two players from Haryana, Amit Kumar (Sirsa) and Rahul Kumar (Hisar), were part of the team. 

The other teams in the tournament were Afghanistan, Maldives, Nepal, Pakistan and Sri Lanka.
