India’s junior men’s team continued its good run with a 5-1 thrashing of Scotland in the second game. India took the lead through Ajay Yadav. Thereafter, Indian goalkeeeper Suraj Karkera pulled off two smart saves to deny Scotland the equaliser heading into the first break. Yadav capitalised on some slack Scotland defending to extend India’s lead. India won a stroke early in the third quarter and Varun Kumar made no mistake from the spot. Varun scored his second goal in the final quarter. Gurjant added a fifth to India’s tally. Scotland’s William Marshall scored a goal in the dying minutes.

Delhi begins home leg by crushing Bengal 

Dabang Delhi thumped Bengal Warriors 41-20 in their first match of the home leg, keeping their semifinal hopes alive in the Pro Kabaddi League. Kashiling Adake scored 13 points as Delhi are now seventh in the league with 26 points from 11 games whereas Bengal finished their season in the last spot with 26 games from 14 games.

Setting target scores to deal with pressure: Coach

The Indian archery head coach Dharmendra Tiwari is setting ‘target scores’ for his team at the practice sessions.  “It’s about creating pressure situation for them. We are setting target scores of 55 (out of 60) for team events and 28 (from 30) in individual section so as to create a pressure situation,” Tiwari said. The Indian archery team, who were training in Marica, checked in at Centro adjacent to the archery venue of Sambodromo in the host city of Rio de Janeiro last evening. — Agencies
