L Devendro Singh (52kg) advanced to the final along with Ankush Dahiya (60kg) on another mixed day for the Indian boxers at the Ulaanbaatar Cup. Devendro defeated Mongolia’s Gandulam Mungun-Erdene in a unanimous verdict, while Dahiya got the better of Russia’s Radna Tsibikov in a split decision. K Shyam Kumar (49kg), M Hussamuddin (56kg) and Priyanka Chaudhary (60kg) lost their respective semifinal bouts to settle for bronze medals.

Anish shoots gold in Junior World Champhionship

Pistol shooter Anish shone bright as India bagged a gold and a silver on the opening day of the ISSF Junior World Championship Rifle/Pistol in Suhl, Germany. The 15-year-old from Haryana won gold in the men’s 25m standard pistol competition, with a world record score of 579, which also helped India bag the team silver in the event and prop it to second in the overall standings.

Vinod Rai, head of the Committee of Administrators (CoA), hailed Anil Kumble for his “impeccable” role as India coach and said they will ensure cohesion in the team. “If two persons are thrown together for 24x7, there will be difference of professional opinion, so what’s there? His contract was for one year, there were perceptions, professional issues. He is more mature person, he decided that, ok, fair enough. It is the captain who has to play on the field ultimately,” Rai said.

Ronaldo sets Portugal on way to Confed Cup semis
