Indian men’s hockey team’s analytical coach Hans Streeder has resigned in protest against chief coach Roelant Oltmans’ sacking. It has been learnt that Streeder, who played a key role in improving the tactical skills of the Indian team with his precise analysis of players’ movement, submitted his resignation to Hockey India (HI) today. As the Indian team gears up for important tournaments like the HWL Finals and World Cup at home in coming months, Streeder’s resignation could complicate things further for the team and HI.

Indian eves off to fine start in Ahmed Comert Int’l Boxing 

Indian women pugilists Shashi Chopra and G Niharika began their campaign at the Ahmed Comert International Boxing Championship on a promising note, posting comprehensive victories to progress to next round. Shashi beat Olga Vozniak of Ukraine in the 57kg category, while Niharika went past Laura Mamedkulieva of Russia in the 75kg weight division. However, Deepa Kumari went down to Zhansaya Aboraimova of Kazakhstan in the 51kg category.

Duleep Trophy: Indrajith hits 120* as Reds score 291/9              

Middle-order batsman Baba Indrajith struck a gutsy unbeaten 120 as India Red finished at 291/9 against India Blue at stumps on the opening day of their Duleep Trophy encounter here today. The Tamil Nadu batsman and No. 11 Vijay Gohil added unbeaten 86 runs for the last wicket to pull their team out of the woods. Ankit Rajpoot (3/44) and Jaydev Unadkat (2/64) were the main wicket-takers for India Blue. Brief scores: India Red 291/9 (Baba Indrajith 120*, Priyank Panchal 36; Ankit Rajpoot 3/44) vs India Blue.

Paris, Los Angeles confirmed as Olympics hosts         

The International Olympic Committee named Paris and Los Angeles as hosts for the 2024 and 2028 Olympics today, crowning two cities at the same time in a historic first for the embattled sports body. Loud applause rang out at the Lima Convention Centre shortly after the IOC membership voted to approve a deal hashed out in July which arranged for Paris to be given 2024 and Los Angeles 2028.
