It’s not just the players who are having a go at each other in this fiercely-contested series. The fans, too, aren’t missing out on any opportunity to take potshots at the players from the rival team. While Australian skipper Steve Smith was booed by the crowd in Bengaluru following his brain-fade moment, the Australian fans took a dig at Virat Kohli at Ranchi for his woeful form in the series. On Monday, the Australian fans put up a banner outside their enclosure with ‘Delhi belly has given us more runs than Kohli has scored this whole series’ scribbled across it.
Although Australia were struggling to save the Test, the Australian fans nonetheless decided to have some fun at Kohli’s expense. The Indian skipper, who had been in the form of his life before the start of this series, has managed just 46 runs in five innings so far.
One of the Australian fans explained the point they were trying to drive home: “In India, the visitors sometimes have upset stomach due to change in eating habits. Sometimes you just keep visiting the toilet to cleanse your system. We are telling Kohli that we have visited toilets more times than the runs he has scored this series.”
Dhoni shows up
Finally, on the last day of Ranchi’s maiden Test, MS Dhoni showed up at the stadium to cheer for his teammates. The former India skipper, who was out of town captaining Jharkhand in the Vijay Hazare Trophy, arrived in his Hummer with his Jharkhand teammates after the first session. Dhoni was seen smiling and waving at the spectators, who would chant his name every time the camera panned on him. His presence caused a lot of trouble for the security personnel as a huge crowd gathered outside the enclosure he was sitting in, with a few even trying get in.
