A 17-year-old Dalit girl was allegedly abducted and raped by a youth in Pandori Araean village in Dharamkot subdivision of Moga district, police officials confirmed here on Friday.

The police had registered a case under Sections 376, 506 of the IPC and Section 4 of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences, 2012, against the accused, Gurcharan Singh of Pandori Araean village, at the Dharamkot police station.

In a statement to the police, the victim, who is a student of Class XII, said when she was coming back home from her school, the accused youth stopped her and threatened to upload some of her photographs on social media if she did not accompany him.

He took her to an undisclosed location at Dharamkot town and kept her there for about three hours. He sexually assaulted her twice during the captivity. In the evening, the youth left her outside the village and fled.

The victim narrated the incident to her mother after which the family approached the police. The girl was taken to the Civil Hospital by her parents.

The police, after recording the statement, got the medical examination of the victim conducted in which it has prima facie been established that she was sexually assaulted, doctors said.

The investigating officer, ASI Prabhjot Kaur, told mediapersons that the police have raided the house of the accused but he was not found there. Efforts are on to arrest the accused.
