Manjit Singh Mannu of Boorwala village (Jalalabad) has been arrested for killing his mother and sister after they refused to give him money on June 6.

Ketan Baliram Patil, SSP, told mediapersons here on Wednesday that Manjit Singh (23) was unemployed and often used to take money from his mother Chhinder Pal Kaur (45) and sister Seema Rani (20).

On June 6, when Manjit asked for money, the two refused. This infuriated Manjit, who then hit his mother with a spade that he had borrowed from a neighbour and later killed his sister, who was trying to contact someone on phone.

He initially thought of setting his blood-stained clothes ablaze but later dumped them, washed the spade and returned it to the neighbour before fleeing.

When his brother Harjit Singh, who is a salesman, returned home, he saw his sister and mother lying in a pool of blood. A case under Section 302 of the IPC was registered on his statement.

Ameerkhas police station incharge Iqbal Singh, who nabbed the accused, claimed that Manjit had confessed to the crime, but said he was upset due to unemployment.
