Bathinda, December 15

Responding to the Sukhbir Badal dare of holding a rally in Bathinda, newly appointed PPCC president Capt Amarinder Singh today hit back with a crowd double that of SAD’s first “Sadbhavna Rally” in the same city.

The state Congress chief, who formally took over the charge at the rally itself, swore by a ‘Gutka’ (holy text) and Takht Damdama Sahib that he would wipe out the drug menace in the state within four weeks if he took over as chief minister.

Virtually announcing the party’s agenda for the 2017 Assembly elections, Capt Amarinder Singh said: “I will ensure the end of corruption and education for all, particularly in government schools, to enable the youth for employment. I swear by the tenth Guru that FIRs against all Congress workers and others lodged under the influence of the SAD government will be cancelled.”

The highly responsive crowd — which some sources in the security set-up put at well over 1 lakh — was up on its feet when the former chief minister took the stage to declare: “Sukhbir Badal had called me an old lion. Let me tell him, I am still fit enough to gobble up his entire family of giddars (jackals).”

Former PPCC president Partap Singh Bajwa, who also received a warm response from the audience, said he could sacrifice his post 20 times over if his party wanted him to. “With Capt Amainder Singh as the state party leader, we will together work out a strategy to put an end to the chaos created by the Badals,” he said.

After the rally was over, it took hours for the roads to clear of the crowds.
