Aam Aadmi Party MLA from Dakha HS Phoolka, who had resigned from the party and as MLA last year, has urged Punjab Vidhan Sabha Speaker Rana KP Singh to immediately accept his resignation, failing which he would be “constrained to approach the Supreme Court”.

In a letter to the Speaker, Phoolka has urged the Speaker to immediately accept his resignation so that the byelection to the Dakha constituency could be held simultaneously with elections to Jalalabad and Phagwara constituencies.

“The resignation of the MLAs representing these two constituencies — Sukhbir Singh Badal and Som Prakash — were accepted by the Speaker after the duo were elected as Members of Parliament, but it’s unfortunate that my resignation has not been accepted,” he said.

Phoolka said he had resigned in October 2018 and had personally appeared before the Speaker and submitted a one-line resignation as was demanded of him. “I have even resigned from AAP and met the Speaker on March 23, wherein I had made it clear that I had even resigned from the party and urged him to accept my resignation. In spite of this, till today, my resignation has not been accepted,” he has written to the Speaker.

Phoolka is not the only one whose resignation has not been accepted by the Speaker, on the pretext that the resignations sent by them are not in the prescribed format. He has also not accepted the resignation of Sukhpal Singh Khaira, Nazar Singh Manshahia and Amarjit Singh Sandoa — all AAP MLAs who have sent in their resignations.
