Sangrur, April 24

Fire damaged wheat crop in around 70 acres in Bhimad and Majhi villages of Bhawanigarh subdivision of Sangrur. After getting information, Cabinet Minister Vijay Inder Singla visited the affected farmers and assured quick release of financial compensation.

“Fire has destroyed 7 acres of my standing wheat crop. We are yet to know what caused the fire,” said Kulwant Singh, a farmer from Majhi village.

Another farmer Satinder Singh said sparks in the Power Department lines had caused fire. “Though the exact reason of the fire has not been determined, but it seems to have been caused by short circuit in electricity wires. We will protest if the government fails to release financial compensation immediately,” he said.

Minister Singla, who was in Sangrur on Wednesday to attend a rally of Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh, immediately reached Majhi village and spoke to affected farmers.
