Sangrur, January 15

The Sangrur city-1 police have registered a case against three persons for causing the death of a local night watchman.

The incident took place when driver Lakhwinder Singh with conductor Dhiraj Kumar and helper Gurpreet Singh were on the way to Ludhiana in a truck on Monday.

The truck ran over Rati Ram (70), a night watchman who was going back home after duty, near a drain on the Sangrur-Mehla road. The truck overturned and fell into the drain, said Ramandeep Singh, SHO of the police station.

According to the police, the accused threw the body of Rati Ram into the drain. When Rati Ram did not reach home, his family approached the police, who found the body during search.

“During preliminary investigation, it came to light that after crushing Rati Ram, their truck fell into the drain. But they escaped unhurt. After coming out of the drain, they saw the body lying on the road near the drain. All three threw the body in the same drain. The body was handed over to the relatives of the deceased and a case was registered under Section 304-A (causing death by negligence) of the IPC against all three persons,” said the SHO.
